Picks For New “Idol” Judges

american idol judges 2012Judges on “American Idol” are dropping like flies. Last week Steven Tyler rocked the “Idol” universe with an announcement that he was leaving the show and before fans even had time to Google the news, JLo let loose with her own resignation from the judge’s chair. Now Randy Jackson is once again the last judge standing.

With falling ratings and a bevy of new singing competitions nipping at its heels, “Idol” is poised for yet another makeover. The best bet to breathe new life into the show might be to take a note or two from the competition. Going country has helped both “The Voice” and “Duets” with Blake Shelton and Jennifer Nettles keeping things refreshingly down to earth and if Simon Cowell’s intuition is as good as usual, he’s likely to have hit the right note  by adding young judges Britney Spears (30) and Demi Lovato (19) to his judging lineup on “The X Factor.” Here are our top seven picks to join Randy in the judges’ seats on “Idol.”

Carrie Underwood

Not only is Underwood the most successful “Idol” alum, but her appeal is more widespread than that of baseball and apple pie. It hardly gets more all-American than this blonde, country powerhouse. Carrie would be able to relate to the hopefuls as they journey down the same road that led her to selling more than 13 million albums in the U.S. and taking home five Grammys.

Taylor Swift

Since it seems there’s nothing the girl wonder can’t turn to gold with just a touch, why not grace “Idol” with her special brand of downhome magic? And to really boost the ratings, they could secure Kanye West as a guest judge and make sure he sits right next to country’s sweetheart.

Justin Moore

Don’t let his good manners and innocent face deceive you – this former Billboard top new country artist of the year has been on tour with Blake Shelton, and some of those rowdy sensibilities are bound to have rubbed off. Justin also has two little girls, which could give him some common ground with “Idol” hopefuls who have left their own bambinos to follow their dreams.

Kellie Pickler

Another “Idol” alum, this pint-sized firecracker would be a riot to watch in the judge’s chair. Anyone who saw her season of “Idol” knows that there’s no way to predict what might come out of this ditzy country cutie’s mouth.

Miranda Lambert

While it might seem bad form to sign up for a show that would put the “Kerosene” singer in competition with her bad boy hubby Blake Shelton, the possible friendly fire would probably be worth tuning in for – besides, there’s no doubt her sass and wit would be a refreshing addition to the fading show.

Chris Young

Chris, who got his start on the reality show “Nashville Star,” would bring his yummy looks and a string of number one hits to his role as judge. And with those bedroom eyes Chris would turn up the heat for sure.

Miley Cyrus

As much as it kills me to say so, booking Miley would probably do for “Idol” what Britney’s doing for “The X Factor.” There’s just an undeniable (if sick) fascination with waiting to see how fantastic the impending train wreck will be.

Who would you like to see as the next “Idol” judge?
